Home Life

“We believe in the sanctity of human life and that those in need must be cared for by those more able”. For those who need it, we hope that Bethshan is the next best thing to living in their own home, where the spirit of family exists and residents and staff enjoy an atmosphere of peace, friendship and support.

We have 40 rooms divided into units of ten over two floors. Our specialist dementia units are situated on the ground floor, whilst our first floor units cater for frail elderly residents. Each unit contains a comfortable lounge/dining room where most residents take their meals together. We have a small garden and balconies with beautiful views over both the town and its surrounding area.

Bedrooms are tastefully decorated with Laura Ashley curtains and furnished to a high standard with en-suite facilities, television point, smoke detector, nurse call system and thermostatically controlled radiator. Residents are encouraged to bring some of their own possessions such as photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture, to make their surroundings as much like home as possible. Private telephones can be arranged in bedrooms upon request and there is Wifi access available throughout. There is a visitor’s bedroom which can be used by those who have to travel from further afield to see their family member.

Our energetic and creative activities co-ordinators, along with a dedicated team of volunteers, organise a wide range of pursuits to cater for all interests. For two years we participated in the Gwanwyn Arts Project funded by Age Cymru.  Last year the staff were nominated for an award at the Age Cymru awards dinner, narrowly missing the prize. An amazing piece of collaborative artwork was produced by the residents as a table centre for a dinner held by the Centre for Innovative Aging at Swansea University. In February staff and volunteers put on a panto – Jack and the Beanstalk – which was enjoyed by all. Other regular events include theme days, games, cookery, gardening and pamper sessions. Activities take place each day Monday to Friday and on special occasions. We also arrange visits from entertainers to suit most tastes including “Music in Hospitals” and outings are occasionally undertaken. Residents are encouraged to continue to participate in activities outside the Home wherever possible.

We have our own Chaplain who is available on request for personal visits to residents as well as organising the popular weekly worship service. He also offers support to next-of-kin and staff members.

A hairdresser visits every week (at extra cost) and toiletries, sweets etc are available from our trolley shop once a fortnight.
